About Us

Superior Color & Lumber had humble beginnings in the early 1970s as the ‘Color Center,’ a small paint shop in a back room of the Hilltop Motel. Motel owner, Colonel Robert Rutherford, later sold both the motel and paint store to his daughter Peggy and her husband Charlie. From there, the townsfolk of Superior began asking for more, and Peggy and Charlie bought a lot next door to the Motel and expanded into the lumber business, renaming the Color Center to 'Superior Color & Lumber'.

Family and Community

In 2007, Peggy and Charlie’s daughter and son-in-law, Hope and Rob, took over Superior Color & Lumber. Over the years, the townsfolk of Superior began to ask for even more. In 2017, Rob answered those requests. He moved SC&L to its current location in downtown Superior, continuing the legacy of paint and lumber supply, and adding hardware to the mix.
